Cattle Breeding and Fodder Development (CBFD) is an essential initiative aimed at improving the productivity and genetic quality of cattle while ensuring a sustainable supply of nutritious fodder. The program focuses on artificial insemination, distribution of high-quality semen straws, and supply of fodder resources to support livestock farmers.

Key Functions of CBFD Units

  • Semen Straw Distribution: 31 CBFD Units distribute Frozen Semen Straws from three production stations to Veterinary Institutions and Sub Centres across the State.
  • Liquid Nitrogen Supply: These units also provide liquid nitrogen to Veterinary Institutions for semen storage.
  • Infrastructure Development: CBFD Units in Erode, Karur, Madurai, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Villupuram are being strengthened under the Rastriya Gokul Mission with a budget of ₹50 lakh each.
  • Fodder Distribution: The units supply fodder seeds, fodder slips, and tree fodder seedlings to farmers, ensuring a steady feed supply for livestock.
