Veterinary Infrastructure

Veterinary Infrastructure Development

The Department provides a range of veterinary services, including health coverage, disease prevention, clinical services, disease eradication, and breeding support. These services are delivered through various veterinary institutions such as polyclinics, clinical centers, veterinary hospitals, veterinary dispensaries, animal disease intelligence units, poultry disease diagnostic laboratories, and a veterinary epidemiology center. The Department also operates 13 farms, comprising eight livestock farms, three sheep and goat farms, one poultry breeding farm, and one fodder farm.

These veterinary institutions have evolved from merely offering treatment for sick livestock to serving as knowledge resource and extension centers. Farmers can access any of these veterinary institutions within their vicinity to obtain the required services. Consequently, it is crucial that all these institutions are equipped with the necessary infrastructure. With rural development as the ultimate goal, the Department's infrastructure is being developed with assistance from the NABARD Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XXV,XXVII,XXVIII), NADP, the Establishment and Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries (ESVHD), and state funds.
Under these schemes, buildings for 593 veterinary institutions have been newly constructed at a total cost of Rs.229.83 crore. Construction is currently underway for 25 additional veterinary institutions at a cost of Rs.12.92 crore.
Additionally, for year 2023-24 a government order has been issued to construct new buildings for 25 veterinary institutions under the NABARD RIDF XXIX assistance at a total cost of Rs.16.30 crore.
