Establishment of Native Chicken Breeding Farm and Hatchery Unit at District Livestock Farm, Abishegapatti, Tirunelveli.
Objective
To Provide good quality native chicken to the farmers through establishment of Native Chicken Breeding Complex and hatchery Unit.

5 lakh numbers of day old Native chicks will be produced and distributed to farmers in Southern Districts every year.Establishment of Native chicken breeding farm, a Hatchery unit and a Feed mill at District Livestock Farm, Chettinad.
Objective
As there is a growing demand for poultry products of indigenous breeds and as the State is witnessing a tremendous demand shift from the commercial white broiler meat and eggs to native chicken meat and eggs, it has been proposed to establish “Native Chicken Breeding farm, a Hatchery Unit and a Feed mill” in a Government farm so as to distribute native chicks to needy farmers for rearing.

Upliftment of 100 Rural farmers through Establishment of Native Chicken Poultry farms (250 birds per unit) at 50 % subsidy

To encourage 100 entrepreneurs in Native Chicken rearing.

50 % subsidy (Rs.1,56,875 / beneficiary) for the total cost required for construction of poultry shed, purchase of equipments, and feed cost for 4 months i.e., upto grower stage will be given to beneficiary as a back ended subsidy.Remaining 50 % beneficiary contribution can be mobilized from bank loan or farmers own fund can be utilised.
Eligibility :
The beneficiaries should have atleast 625 sq.ft of land to construct poultry shed and should be able to contribute 50% of total cost(Rs.1,56,875/-)Project Outcome :
Each beneficiary will earn around Rs.2,31,000 in a year by sale of eggs, chicks and spent hens & cocks.Upliftment of 38,700 Rural Backyard Poultry Units of 40 Aseel birds capacity in all the Districts of Tamil Nadu (Except Chennai) with 50% subsidy for the year 2024-25
Objective
- To encourage backyard poultry rearing.
- To promote Native chicken rearing.
- To provide livelihood opportunities for the women in the short term and to empower them to become entrepreneurs in the long term enabling them to get sustainable income through poultry farming.

- Selected beneficiary should be a poor woman. Preference will be given to widows, destitute and physically challenged.
- Women belonging to Self Help Groups registered with Tamilnadu State Rural Livelihood Mission shall be given preference.
- The selected beneficiary should be permanent resident of that village and should be interested in poultry rearing.
- The beneficiary should have capacity to give 50% contribution amount of Rs.1600/-
- The beneficiary should not have benefitted from free milch cow, goat/ sheep scheme or poultry schemes during previous years.
- 30% of the beneficiaries selected should be from SC/ST category
Project Strategy :
50 % back ended subsidy contribution amount of Rs.1600/ - per beneficiary will be provided to each beneficiary towards purchase of 4 weeks old 40 aseel birds.Project Outcome :
The beneficiary’s birds will give her an average of 1500 - 1700 eggs in their productive period resulting in a revenue of around Rs.15,000/- to 17,000/-. In addition the beneficiary will also earn from sale of live birds which will fetch around Rs.7000-8000/-Eligibility - Poultry Development
